NoNames extension privacy policy
Updated 8 October 2026. Applies to the NoNames Chrome extension.
Your text. Your device. No tracking.
All text redaction and restoration happen locally on your device. NoNames does not upload your text, rules, restoration mappings or usage data. We do not receive, store, sell or review that data. No accounts, advertising, analytics or telemetry.
The extension uses text you enter or paste, relevant ChatGPT drafts and answers, and tab/conversation identifiers only to redact text and restore placeholders. It does not access other websites' content or archive your chat history.
Rules and settings stay in your browser until removed or the extension is uninstalled; NoNames does not sync them. Checked text and restoration mappings stay in temporary extension session storage until cleared or the browser restarts. Use the panel's Session controls to clear them; remove saved rules separately in the rule editor. Local storage is not encrypted by NoNames.
Text entered or inserted into ChatGPT is accessible to that website and covered by its own privacy policy. Requested copies go to your system clipboard; exported rules go to a local file. Clipboard history or sync follows your device settings. NoNames does not read your clipboard in the background. Review redactions before sharing.
The Redact uploaded files setting processes selected or dropped TXT, Markdown, DOCX, ODT and PDF documents locally before passing their redacted versions to ChatGPT's upload control. The setting is on by default for new installs and can be switched off. Saved preferences are preserved on updates. Images pass through unchanged; image text is not recognized. Suggestions are optional and remain unchanged unless you redact them. PDF pages with no extractable text are held in the NoNames panel for manual review. You can also add documents directly in the panel, review them, and download or attach their redacted versions.
If a check fails or a file type is unsupported, NoNames offers a choice to cancel or continue without checking. Continuing releases the original pasted text, current draft, or entire selected file batch (including filenames) to ChatGPT. This requires your explicit choice and does not switch off protection for subsequent actions.
Document bytes, filenames and previews stay in extension-owned memory, separate from saved rules and browser-session mapping storage. Session clearing, closing the chat tab, leaving ChatGPT, restarting Chrome or reloading the extension removes the associated documents. Closing the panel alone does not clear held documents. Restoration mappings for document text follow the session lifetime described above. Exported PDF black boxes permanently remove their contents. File processing uses bundled code and PDF fonts are not fetched remotely. Redacted files attached to ChatGPT are uploaded by that website under its privacy policy.
